Hi
I have posted this before on a previous site but I am doing so again on here.
I was once asked about my favourite passage of the Bible - and of course the truth is there are hundreds that I could refer to - so this is certainly one of my favourite passages but more importantly it is about the "core" of what I am called to do as a Christian.
Now be warned this takes a little while to get through - be patient............and please read it all..........
I did not "discover" this (do all the research myself) but I found it and was amazed by it - I thought it was simply AWESOME:-
The information uses the Revised Standard Version (RSV) of the Bible -
There are 1189 chapters in the Bible.
The Old Testament has 929 chapters and the New Testament has 260 chapters.
The longest chapter in the Bible is Psalm 119
The shortest chapter in the Bible is Psalm 117.
So Psalm 118 is the middle chapter in the Bible.
Psalm 118 vs 9 (LOOK - 1189 chapters - chance?luck?coincidence? - Not on your life) says:
"It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to put confidence in princes."
This is fairly awesome - my abridged version would be "Trust God not man".
However that is not the central verse in the Bible.
There are 31102 verses in the Bible.
As this is an even numbers it means that there are two central verses.
Those verses are Psalm 103vs 1 & 2 - OH LOOK 10312 the same set of digits as in the total number of verses. (Again I ask - chance?luck?coincidence? - again I say NOT!!)
Oh and if you missed it the number of verses in the Bible is pretty perfect too - SEVEN - Gods special number - (3+1+1+0+2 = 7) meaning "complete" or "whole"
Psalm 103 vs 1 & 2 says:
"Bless the Lord oh my soul and all that is within me bless His holy name. Bless the Lord O my soul and foget not all His benefits"
There are 28 words in the two verses and the middle four words are "Bless His Holy Name".
So the very centre of the Bible reads - BLESS HIS HOLY NAME - and that surely is what we should be doing as Christians. Are you not AMAZED by that. I am!!!
And if we get that right in our daily lives then everything else we are called to do will I am sure, fall into place.
The Bible is facinating but not as facinating as God Himself.
People may decide to have "a go" at this I know, because verses and chapters were added way after the original text was written, but there is no way that the scribes who did that could have put everything together to achieve this.
The Bible is the inspired word of God and I believe that as it was being put together God blessed those people who were doing the work and gave us this mathematical wonder!
So Psalm 103 vs 1 & 2 comes pretty close to being my favourite scripture passage.
God Bless
